Your Personal Climate Resolutions for 2025
It’s almost 2025! I’m not much of a New Year’s resolution maker, but if you are, think about adding a change to your lifestyle that will improve the health of our planet. There are so many things you can do, from easy to challenging, that will make difference.
To help you pick what you’d like to focus on, I’m recommending you try the Earth Hero app. There are a huge variety of actions listed here, along with basic info and additional reading to help you understand the reasoning. If you aren’t into using an app on your phone, visit Earth Hero online to read through actions for ideas.
I also tried out other apps, and Get Green is similar, but seems to have fewer actions. Get Green’s website is promoting ‘cities, companies, and universities’ using their platform, so this may be a way to get an organization working together toward goals.
There are other apps with other goals- sending emails to politicians and business owners about climate issues, calculating and offsetting your carbon footprint, climate updates, finding EV charging stations, sustainable fashion and food, and others. I tend to want a list of actual actions I can take, and for that, try Earth Hero.
The other place where I suggest you spend time learning is Project Drawdown’s website. There is a huge amount of information here about different actions that humanity can take, and what impact those changes would be projected to make. It helps you see the bigger picture of the best places to focus our efforts. For other reading recommendations from me, there is a big list of my favorites in this post.
I encourage you to have a few different goals- an easy but long-term commitment, something with a short time frame so it gets started and accomplished, and a harder, more in-depth goal.
Once you find actions that are fulfilling, make them part of your everyday life, and add on a new goal. Talk with your friends and family about what you are doing. You might be able to get them to join you, or talk about their own concerns or actions.
Here are my personal 2025 resolutions to fight climate change:
Put up a clothesline this spring to dry clothes instead of my dryer which uses gas heat + a lot of electricity. Maybe I’ll even make some fun clothesline art like Helga Stentzel’s animals!
Volunteer to build rock dams with Yampa Valley Sustainability Council to improve wet meadows. These areas are important for wildlife habitat and carbon sequestration.
Continue to only eat meat a couple times a week, and try different vegan cheeses to see if there’s a palatable one. Any suggestions?!
Keep learning, writing, making art to highlight environmental and climate change issues. Making art is a joy, but writing is harder for me. I have to pep talk myself into it each time I sit down to write.
Ok, off we go to 2025! I’m wishing you all the best with your plans. I’m also wishing for you to have peace, love, and joy in the future. Remember, it rarely falls into our laps, so let’s get out and work for the world we want.
